This is an interview with Priya Narasimhan of Carnegie Mellon University has worked withRajeev Gandhi to develop the YinzCam for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The technology allows fans to access multiple cameras in the building in real time from their mobile phones.

There was another interesting company in Canada called Kangaroo TV who had built a similar service with their own devices (before smart phones were so prevalent).

Mobile is a growing platform within most of the major sports leagues and I would expect that we will only see more of these types of offerings.

“Fans inside the Mellon Arena can access YinzCam from their WiFi-enabled device and use it to watch the action from unique camera angles such as Bench Cam, Penalty Box Cam and Goalie Cam. There’s even a Crosby Cam and a Malkin Cam, which allow fans to follow two of their favorite players, as well as options to get instant replays from different camera angles seconds after the action takes place.”
