iPhone/iPad App: GetGlue
It looks like the Social Viewing wars are just starting between GetGlue and Miso. Both services allow users to “check-in” to television shows and movies to receive badges, but GetGlue boasts a few advantages.
The GetGlue apps allow you to check-in to other entertainment/products like music, books, games and wine, whereas Miso is just TV & Movies. It also acts as a recommendation engine based on your check-ins, which is something that I am particularly interested in. I think that qualified recommendations are going to be a big part of how we discover new products in the future (especially entertainment).
GetGlue is also doing really well in the partnerships department, signing deals with Fox, HBO, Showtime, PBS, and Universal Pictures. While Miso has a partnership with Revision 3 and they were just selected as a PepsiCo10 company.
Once they incorporate shared viewing experiences (chat, live stats, etc) and more real-life rewards (like this PS3 contest for Ice Road Truckers), these apps are going to take off in a big way.
GetGlue now stuck on your iPad with launch of dedicated app.
