Fanvibe: iPhone App & Website:

As sports TV ratings continue to surge, a big draw for a lot of people is the shared real-time experience and commentary on Twitter and other social networks. With all of this game-time chatter (with different hashtags and syntax), it can be hard to follow your favourite game without a column or two of advanced searches. Not to mention, all of your non-fan followers get extremely annoyed when you fill their stream with Woots and Booyahs.

The fanvibe website and iPhone app makes it insanely easy to join in the conversation in one place. Once you create an account, you are able to “check-in” to a game, pick the winner, and exchange remarks. The site also has some familiar game mechanics from services like Foursquare and Miso.

There is also a pro account for $2.99 per month (or free if you can convince 5 of your friends to sign-up). Although I am not sure if it is worth it, since it looks like you only get access to premium alerts, cool icons for your shouts, “and more”.

The free service looks interesting enough that I’ll be checking in the next time that the Bills or the Flames play. Woot.
